Morphological Description
The gills are unequal, and uniform in color. They are ventricose, and adenate from a decurved cap. The cap is umbonate, with a darker centre and a uniform, lighter edge. The partial veil is only wispy hairs on the upper surface of the stipe. The universal veil has degenerated into tiny fibres that coat the stipe up to the annulus and over the cap. The cap is NOT vicid and was only mildly hygrophanous. Microscopic viewing of the cap on dried specimen made the universal veil remenants more prominent as the color was different. The stipe is clavate to ventricose fusiform, and has visible lighter striations along its length (universal veil remenant). The cap cuticle had distinct [][][] cells making it up, supporting the non-vicid nature of the cap. The dried specimen cap showed a scale-like pattern.
Morphologically similar to Cortinarius furvolaesus or Cortinarius brunneus, but genetically distinct.
