Notes
Stipe solid below but hollow halfway up stipe. Both cap and stipe heavily glutinous in young and old specimens. Both cap and stipe strongly bitter. Cap possibly slightly umbonate. Cap brightly coloured. This fits the description of C. vibratilis but the DNA sequence from this specimen did not match other sequences submitted under the same name. C. pluviorum is smaller, with an iodoform odour and a stem that is only sticky when wet, as opposed to viscid when wet (Hansen et al., 1992). C. pluvialis is smaller and with a pale cap (Moser, 1983).
Habitat
Growing in needles under middle aged hemlock trees. Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) also present nearby.
