Growing in small groups of 3-4 fused mushrooms. No distinguishing smell, taste or color change from bruising. Top of stipe initially lilac tinted, fading to light brown with time. Original id Cortinarius spadicellus. But C. spadicellus has a viscid cap and this collection, like C. variicolor, has a silky cap.
Habitat
Growing in the soil, among leaf litter on a slope, in the vicinity of Western Hemlocks and Western Red Cedars.
