PW identified as Leptonia subrubinea. This specimen has spiny, globose spores and a lilac tint suggesting the genus Laccaria
Habitat
The specimen was found growing under a rotting log, in the soil of a temperate rainforest. The specific area was in the heart of the forest, relatively far away from the edge; moderate shading was provided the surrounding mature trees, which were mostly conifers.
