common name: lemon-yellow Pholiota. member of the aurivella group. 90% in the PNW are limonella and most of the rest aurivella. aroma of cap is a distinctly sweet almond extract/benzaldehyde when fresh and placed close to nose. cap extremely viscid/slimy when fresh (collected after a week of rainy weather)
Habitat
Cespitose clumps growing on steep hill, by running stream. growing near "Tiarela trifoliata" plant, in the shade of western hemlocks.
