Notes
The specimen had morphological features matching that of Armillaria ostoyae, including a brownish cap ornamented with dark brown scales and white to cream coloured gills. There was a high similarity between the DNA sequence of the collected fungi sample and the species A. ostoyae. Further research indicated that A. ostoyae is a facultative parasite that resides on hosts including coniferous trees which corresponds with the specimen being found on a western hemlock.
Habitat
Specimens were found growing abundantly clustered and unclustered on a large Western Hemlock. Native flora surrounded the conifer on the forest floor.
