morphology summary
Notes
Macroscopic: Pileus (41 mm) is bright orange and fades towards cap margin. Cap is viscid and smooth with a depressed center and an even margin. Pale orange lamellae (19 mm) are close and decurrent with an arched margin. Gills bleed a white latex that turns off-white over time. Stipe (87 x 6/9 mm) is central, hollow, and even. Stipe is the same orange color as the pileus. Smell is sweet and pleasant, white the taste is similarly pleasant but mild. Spore print is white. Cap and gills turn an olive-orange with KOH. Microscopic: Basidia have long sterigmata (9 micrometers). Spores have an amyloid reaction to Melzer's reagent, turning the spore base yellow and the ornamentation dark blue. Ornamentation consists of warts (0.5 micrometers high) with ridges connecting them, and some lone warts. Ellipsoid spores are 10-8.75 micrometers in length and 7.5 micrometers in width. Capitulate cystidia (with a pinched tip) are present in the hymenial layer and are ~37 micrometers long.
