This mushroom had a overall dark-brown woody appearance when fresh, and a lighter-brown woody appearance when dried. The mushroom looked like a piece of wood, and had a corky, tough texture.
In regards to the cap, it was 'U' or cup shaped, and flared outwards slightly. On the underside of the cap were spines or teeth, which were brown in colour on the fresh specimen, but a very dark-black colour on the dried specimen. The teeth were decurrent, running down the underside of the cap to the stipe, becoming progressively longer closer to the stipe. The inside of the cap was dark-brown when fresh and a lighter-brown when dried. The inside of the cap was also rippled in appearance with a dark ring circleling it. The margin of the cap was faintly wavy, with an uneven, scalloped edge. The edge of the cap was also quite dark in appearance and became more of a woody, dark-brown further away from it.
The stipe and the cap were one continous piece, however, the cap was somewhat off-center of the stipe. The stipe was the same colour and texture as the cap: woody, dark-brown, corky and tough. The stipe, while corky and tough, was not completely linear, but was slighly undulated. No ring or veil was present on the stipe. There was also no volva at the base of the stipe.
No latex or juice was emitted from either the cap or stipe when cut.
As for the microscopic features, the basidiospores were warty, very cylindrical, and lightly-brown in appearance. The average spore size was 4.5 micrometers in width by 5.0 micrometers in length. There were no clamp connections visible on the hyphae, and the basidia of this particular mushroom was quite wide.
