Morphological Description
|
Cap: Convex, silky, smooth, regular and dry with an indentation in the center of older specimens. In mature specimens collected, light pink concentrically darkens to salmon or flesh beige in center. When fresh had a slightly translucent quality to the color but darkens and becomes buff as specimen dries. The very edge of the caps are deep purple. In younger specimens collected, the entire cap is deep, dull, violet in color.
Stem: Few stray hairs on longitudinally striate to ribbed stem. Slightly bulbous at the base but equal otherwise and is centrally attached to cap. Is terete, flexous and hollow. Color is uniform and is a light shade of lilac identical to gills when fresh. The striations darken and take on a reddish brown hue as the mushroom loses moisture. The flesh in stem fades in color as mushroom dries.
Gills: Adenate attachment, distant spacing. Are broad, unequal, waxy and of average thickness with an eroded edge. When fresh has a light, bright, pale lilac color but darkens to a dull, waxy, purple with a light dusting of white (from spores) as mushroom dries.
Flesh: Is compact and very thin in cap.
Has a mild taste and slightly fishy smell when fresh but odor becomes increasingly stronger and fish-like after it is picked. |
