Collection Data:
The Mushroom samples I collected were found near the Capilano River Cleveland Dam Salmon Hatchery in the forest. They were collected Saturday October twenty first 2006. This mushroom was found growing in a dense cluster of more than nine mushrooms. They were growing in a group (gregarious) but were not fused at the base. The caps of the taller mushrooms were overlapping (imbricate) with the shorter mushrooms underneath. The specimens were short (average 15-20 cm above soil) and were growing intertwined with moss that looks like a Polytrichidae probably Atrichum. When the mushrooms were pulled up they brought along a clump of moss as well as some broken pieces of rotting wood, needles and other plant material. These specimens were found next to a forest at a higher elevation than the hatchery. The mushrooms and moss were found growing in the grass at the top of a slope that was several meters away from the edge of the forest. They were growing on an exposed site without cover from the sun or rainfall. This grassy area is right next to a trail and next to that there is a gravel road that leads down towards the river
Morphological Data:
The Mushrooms have thin (5mm-7mm thick) long stalks (5-10cm). The caps were about 30mm wide and 10mm thick. The Cap is bright yellow in color slightly greenish, with a darker center that is more orange. The Cap is Campanulate (bell-shaped). The cap surface is moist but not wet or slimy, and smooth in texture. The cap margin is even or slightly crenate (scalloped). The cap is less than half a CM thick and not translucent. Soft in texture but also some what brittle with the cap margin splitting if not handled with the most delicate care. The underside of the cap is yellow in color as well. The Gills appear brownish due to the spores. The gills are adnate to the stem and Sinuate/Emarginate (noched) at the point of attachment. The gill breadth is narrow with gills not extending below the cap margin and average in thickness. The gill edges are mostly even/entire. The gill are unequal in length with most from stipe to cap margin with short gills in between the full length ones increasing the gill surface area. The stem is located centrally to the cap and the same color as the cap. The stem is round in shape, flexuous along its length, with fibrous surface and more firm than the cap tissue. The fibrous areas appear more orange than the smoother surface. The base of the stem appeared equal in width to the rest of the stem. Veil remains were not found, and there were no obvious rhizomes. The spores are purplish brown in color. They are smooth and elliptical in shape and 6.5-8 x 3.5-4.5 µm.
