Found growing alone on rotting wood. Stalk-less (sessile). Pileipellis can't be removed from pore tissue by hand. Cells are hyphal, trimitic: generative, binding and skeletal hyphae.Very large specimen, but surprisingly light weight for its size. When first picked, it has a deep red colour with brown undertones. After several hours of being picked, a strange light brown colour appears on the top of the mushroom; these are the light brown spores of the mushroom that begin to be dispersed into the air. Gray/light brown pored underside of mushroom is stained dark brown/red when scratched. As seen in the accompanying photos, you can even write and draw on them!
