Cap: 2-3 cm in diameter, with a prominent dark-brown peak. Younger mushrooms are lighter brown in colour, while older mushrooms become 'inky' and develop a dark brown/ black stain. Cap shape is rounded/oval in shape when young, but then becomes convex to plain with age and develops a dark ruffled edge a the base of the gills.
Gills: Free, fragile, dark brown, and frail.
Stalk: 8-11 cm in length, fibrous, smooth, pale gray/white staining darker gray/brown when wet and yellowish brown when dry. Stalk is sturdy, but can be pulled apart easily.
Spores: 4 mm in width and 5 mm in length. Spores are dark brown in colour and are numerous in the older specimen. Shape is elliptical.
