| Morphological Description
|
Mushrooms fan-shaped, convex with straight margins when young, older specimens becoming depressed-umbilicate with margins uplifted on the proximal side of the cap and sometimes decurved on the distal side of the cap. Mushrooms grow in small clumps representing different ages. Mushroom cap is light tan, with some darker and lighter streaks. Cap surface appears silky-smooth, with microscopic powdery projections.
Smells like store-bought oyster mushrooms. Taste is mild, mushroomy, and pleasant.
Gills are off-white, strongly decurrent, closely spaced and unequal with approximately 6-8 tapering-truncate subgills per gill. Some forking visible, but rare. Gills pliable with slightly wavy margins.
Within a clump, lateral stipes of adjacent mushrooms are joined together at their bases. Stipes are off-white and curve upward, their shape mostly equal though slightly thinner at the middle. Stipe surface is subtly longitudinally striate and canescent-floccose. Stipe is pliable and stuffed with a combination of white and off-white tissue. No partial veil or universal veil evident. |
